So, I have been back in Kenya for 3 days now and for the most part it feels like I never left. I LOVE this place! We spent all day friday traveling on the easy coach from Nairobi to Kitale. Saturday we woke up and a group of us headed out to the Hope Bright Future (HBF) Children's Home to play with kids for the day. That is literally all we do there.....play with kids. It is always so fun to be with the kids. They love to lavish you with love and affection!
One of the highlights for the day was seeing a little boy, Martin, who was so full of life. When I had a team here this summer, we met Martin at a funeral for his sister who had passed away from HIV/chicken pox. Martin ended up in the hospital later that week with TB, HIV, pneumonia, and chicken pox. Things were not looking good for him and we spent a lot of time praying and pleading with God to spare his life. That need was met. Martin was running around, full of energy on saturday.....playing, laughing, LIVING!!!!! I just couldn't believe it was the same little guy.
Sunday was a day of sweet rest. I slept late, in an attempt to beat off jetlag, had some time around the compound discussing plans for the week, walked around town, and then went to Baba Nyumbani Children's Home. I had a great time visiting with some of the kids that I met during my first trip to Kenya in 2005. They are so grown and so happy. It was a fun evening with them and also catching up with Jim Pesce (who brought me on my first trip) and Annette.
I really really love this place and am so excited to be back!
